The CNESST (Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail) is the organization responsible for managing industrial accidents and occupational diseases in Quebec.
Who is the CNESST consultation for?
This service is for people who :
- suffered an injury or accident at work
- must consult a physician to open a new CNESST file
- need a formal medical assessment related to their work-related accident
When an accident or injury occurs at work, a medical consultation is required in order to :
- assess medical condition
- officially open a CNESST file
- fill out mandatory medical forms

CNESST management procedure
1. Medical consultation with a general practitioner
You meet with a doctor, who takes note of the event that occurred at work and your symptoms.
2. Assessment of injury or condition
The physician conducts a complete clinical evaluation of the injury or condition related to the work accident.
3. Completion of CNESST forms
The physician completes all the medical documentation required to open the CNESST file.
- The forms are sent directly to CNESST by the physician.
- A copy is given to you, so that you can forward one to your employer.
4. Medical recommendations
Depending on your situation, the doctor may recommend :
- additional examinations
- appropriate treatments
- work stoppage or return to work with or without limitations
5. Medical follow-up, if necessary
If follow-up is necessary, the physician can ensure continuity of CNESST coverage.
Every visit :
- the evolution of the injury is assessed
- the required forms are completed
- medical recommendations are adjusted as needed

Yes, we do not submit invoices to the CNESST; the patient must pay the full cost to the clinic and contact the CNESST for reimbursement.
The doctor completes the medical documentation required for the declaration and automatically faxes it to the CNESST. Subsequent administrative procedures are the responsibility of the patient and the CNESST.
