What is SAAQ coverage?
The SAAQ (Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec) is the organization responsible for compensating people injured in road accidents, whether they are drivers, passengers, pedestrians or cyclists.
Who is the SAAQ consultation for?
This service is for people who :
- were involved in a road accident (driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist)
- have an injury requiring medical assessment
- must open a new SAAQ file following the accident
Examples of situations handled by the SAAQ
- Neck pain after a car collision
- Muscle or joint injuries after a motorcycle or bicycle accident
- Minor trauma following road impact
- Persistent pain after a road accident
How the SAAQ takes care of you
1. Medical consultation with a general practitioner
You meet with a doctor who takes note of the circumstances of the road accident and your symptoms.
2. Assessment of accident-related injuries
The physician performs a complete clinical assessment of the physical injuries related to the accident.
3. Completion of SAAQ forms
The physician completes all the medical documentation required to open the SAAQ file.
It is important to note that sending the forms to the SAAQ is the patient’s responsibility. This administrative step is not handled by the clinic.
4. Medical recommendations
Depending on your condition, the doctor may recommend :
- additional examinations
- appropriate treatments
- functional limitations, as required
5. Medical follow-up, if necessary
If follow-up is required, the physician can ensure continuity of SAAQ care.
At each follow-up visit :
- the evolution of the injury is assessed
- the required medical forms are completed
- recommendations are adjusted according to your state of health
